OF PUTTING






In our previous article, we explained

about touch, speed control and the
various aspects that affect it. This

time round, we shall discuss on the
third skill of putting – green reading.






WHAT IS GREEN READING?

It is predicting the behavior of the ball based on the
slope and friction of the greens surface in relation to
the Zero Line.



PUTT GEOMETRY

Take a look at the image on the right. The red line
shows how the ball will roll into the hole. The ball is
20 feet away from the cup and the apex of the path is 9 inches
9 inches from the straight line between the cup and
the ball. How much is the putt break?
The total break is 22 inches!

A putt is always breaking due to gravity. If you are using
the apex as your aim point, you are under reading the
breaks. Much like a bullet, the ball will start breaking
away from your target line the moment it leaves your
putter face. ANSWER:
22 inches
Most golfers don’t see the real break. Another way to
visualize the aim point and the apex is as follows:
