THE SECOND SKILL

OF PUTTING

In the last issue, we discussed the types of aim as well as

how to check your ‘True Aim’. This issue, we will briefy go
through the second skill of putting – touch/speed control.

WHAT IS TOUCH/SPEED CONTROL?

Consistently delivering the ball into the cup while adjusting to a variety of green speeds.

Should we be aggressive or should the ball just “die in” the hole?
• Delivery speed is critical to use the entire
capture width on all putts

• One revolution reduces the capture width of the
hole by 12% (One revolution is almost the size
of a dollar bill)

• The maximum benefcial length to pass the hole
is no more than 8 inches
• Understanding the requirements of the hole can
help alter your technique to obtain better results
• Aggressive delivery speed requires lower aim and
pin point accuracy
